Dear Merchant,
Following the Reserve Bank of Australia’s (RBA) payment reforms and the applicable card scheme rules, from 1 October 2026, merchants must no longer charge customers an additional fee for paying with eligible cards, including applicable Visa, Mastercard and eftpos credit, debit and prepaid cards. These changes apply to both online and in-store card payments.
Please review the following arrangements to prepare for the transition.
What PiSell Is Preparing
  • Online payments: We are preparing updates to PiSell Payments to remove card surcharge functionality controlled by PiSell.
  • In-store POS: We are updating the relevant card surcharge settings and integrations within PiSell POS. Changes to EFTPOS terminals will be managed by the respective bank or payment service provider.
  • If a software update or any other action is required from you, we will notify you in advance.
What You Need to Do
  1. Review your payment settings. If you accept online payments, check whether any website or ordering page you manage separately applies a card surcharge. If you use an EFTPOS terminal, contact your payment service provider to confirm the implementation arrangements and any action required. If you use both, please review each payment channel.
  2. Update customer notices and inform your staff. From 1 October, remove card surcharge notices from your website, menus, checkout areas and other customer-facing materials. Ensure staff no longer add card surcharges manually. An existing card surcharge must not continue to be charged simply by renaming it a “service fee” or “processing fee”.
  3. Check other surcharge settings. If you use the same functionality to apply weekend, public holiday or other fees, please contact us in advance to check whether your settings need to be adjusted. These fees are not abolished by this reform.
Merchant Payment Processing Fees
This change removes card payment surcharges charged to customers. Transaction processing fees and merchant service fees payable to your payment service provider will continue under your applicable agreement. Please refer to your provider’s formal notification for any changes to your rates.
If you are unsure about your current settings or require assistance, please reply to this email or contact us through our existing support channels.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Kind regards,
PiSell Customer Support Team
